About Me
I’m Jo Wharton, a CDI-registered Career Development Professional, qualified coach and adult education specialist with over 20 years’ experience across careers guidance, employability and professional development.
My background includes supporting learners, practitioners and organisations through careers education, coaching, workforce development and reflective practice. Alongside running FocusWorks, I work within the careers sector supporting the development of Career Development Professionals and observing guidance practice across a range of settings.
FocusWorks was created to provide practical, reflective and coaching-led CPD that goes beyond information-sharing. My work combines structured reflection, professional insight and practical tools to help Careers Leaders, Career Development Professionals and organisations strengthen guidance conversations, build confidence and create meaningful outcomes.
I’m particularly passionate about creating learning experiences and CEIAG resources that feel realistic, usable and grounded in the realities of frontline practice, not just theory.
At FocusWorks, our values shape the way we design learning, connect with people, and create lasting change. They reflect what we believe makes professional development meaningful, sustainable, and fair.
Autonomy: Take control and shape your path
We believe professionals thrive when they feel empowered to make choices, reflect honestly, and take ownership of their growth. Our sessions encourage autonomy, helping people find clarity and confidence in the way they work and learn.
Competence: Keep learning, developing, and growing
Learning doesn’t stop once you’re qualified. We support ongoing growth through reflective practice, challenge, and real-world application that helps people move from knowing to doing.
Respect: Listen deeply and ensure every voice matters
We create psychologically safe spaces where everyone’s perspective is valued. Our approach is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and open dialogue.
Fairness: Create spaces that are inclusive and accessible
Inclusion isn’t an afterthought, it’s designed into everything we do. We build learning that works for diverse minds and needs, ensuring equity of access and experience.
Curiosity: Stay open and explore new possibilities
Curiosity fuels innovation. We invite participants to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and experiment with new ideas that keep learning fresh and relevant.
